Chain-List is a free online platform for discovering, exploring, rating and sharing information about restaurant and food chains.
This page explains how Chain-List operates, what information may be collected when you use the website, how that information may be used, and the choices available to you.
Website: Chain-List
Website address: https://chain-list.com
Contact: support@chain-list.com
Chain-List is currently operated as an independent, non-incorporated project. Chain-List is not presented as a separate company or legal entity.
For questions concerning the website, privacy, accounts, or legal matters, you can contact us at support@chain-list.com.
Chain-List uses third-party hosting and infrastructure services to operate the website.
The information we collect depends on how you use Chain-List.
If you create an account, we may collect your username, email address, password in securely hashed form, account creation date, and any optional profile information you choose to provide, such as an avatar, bio, city, or country.
When you use Chain-List, you may also voluntarily submit ratings, reviews, comments, photos, favourites, lists, and other content. Information that you choose to make public may be visible to other users and may appear on publicly accessible pages.
We may also automatically process certain technical information required to operate and protect the website, including your IP address, browser and device information, operating system, pages requested, date and time of requests, technical logs, and information relating to security incidents or attempted abuse.
If you use a feature such as Near Me, your browser may request permission to provide your device's location. Location information is used to provide the requested location-based feature and is not sold or used for advertising purposes.
Information may be used to operate Chain-List, maintain user accounts, provide website functionality, display ratings and other user contributions, provide location-based features, improve the website, maintain security, prevent spam and abuse, respond to support requests, and comply with applicable legal obligations.
Chain-List does not sell personal information.
Chain-List does not currently use personal information for behavioural advertising or advertising profiling.
If our services or the way information is used changes in the future, this policy may be updated accordingly.
Where data-protection laws such as the GDPR apply, personal information will be processed on an appropriate legal basis depending on the activity.
This may include providing a service requested by you, our legitimate interests in maintaining security and preventing abuse, your consent where consent is required, or compliance with a legal obligation.
The applicable legal basis may differ depending on the specific information and purpose of processing.
We do not keep personal information indefinitely without a reason.
Information is generally kept only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law.
For example, account information will generally remain while your account is active. User-generated content may remain available while the relevant account or content exists. Security and technical logs may be retained for a limited period for security and abuse-prevention purposes.
Certain information may need to be retained for longer where required by law or reasonably necessary to protect the service and its users.
Where you buy or are gifted a membership, a numbered receipt is created as the record of that transaction and a copy is emailed to the buyer. Records of this kind may be kept even after an account is closed, because tax and accounting rules require a trader to keep them.
Depending on the laws applicable to you, you may have rights concerning your personal information, including the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing of your information. You may also have the right to request portability of your information or withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
You can contact us at support@chain-list.com to exercise these rights.
Where available, you can also manage certain information directly through your account, including your profile, reviews, favourites, lists, and privacy preferences.
We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests in order to protect your account and information.
Chain-List uses cookies and similar technologies where necessary to provide and secure the website.
For example, authentication technology may be used to maintain your signed-in session, while another cookie may remember your privacy preferences.
Chain-List does not currently use advertising or analytics cookies.
Where optional technologies such as browser storage or external content require consent under applicable law, they remain disabled until the relevant consent is provided. You can change your applicable preferences at any time through Cookie Preferences.
Chain-List may use third-party providers for hosting, databases, email delivery, maps, security, authentication, and other technical services required to operate the platform.
Only services actually used by Chain-List should be considered covered as current third-party services. Where a provider processes personal information on our behalf, we take reasonable measures to ensure that the processing is handled appropriately.
Some providers may process information in countries different from the country in which you live. Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, appropriate safeguards will be used.
Specific third-party providers may be identified in this policy as the website and its services develop.
Chain-List allows users to publish ratings, reviews, photos, comments, lists, and other contributions.
You are responsible for the content you submit and should only submit content that you have the right to publish.
You should not use Chain-List to publish unlawful content, another person's private information without authorisation, content that infringes someone else's rights, or content intended to harass, threaten, defraud, or deliberately mislead others.
Chain-List may remove or restrict content that violates applicable law, these rules, or the rights of other users.
You may request deletion of your Chain-List account by contacting support@chain-list.com.
Where a self-service deletion feature is available, you may also delete your account through the website.
Deleting an account may not immediately remove information that Chain-List is legally required to retain or that is reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, or the establishment or defence of legal claims.
Where appropriate, information that no longer needs to be associated with an account may be deleted or anonymised.
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, loss, or destruction.
These measures may include secure password hashing, HTTPS/TLS, access controls, authentication protections, rate limiting, and security monitoring.
Security measures may change as Chain-List develops. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
If you believe you have discovered a security vulnerability affecting Chain-List, please contact support@chain-list.com rather than publicly disclosing it.
Chain-List may change its features, technology, services, or methods of processing information over time.
This policy may therefore be updated when necessary. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will be changed whenever the policy is revised.
Where applicable law requires additional notice concerning a significant change, appropriate notice will be provided.
